NDA Exam 2024 Overview

What is the NDA's full form?

The full form of NDA is National Defence Academy. It is commonly known as NDA by many. The NDA exam is conducted by UPSC to recruit class 12th passed students to defence services.

What is NDA?

National Defence Academy (NDA) is an institute of global excellence in the field of military education. To get the most capable candidate admitted to NDA, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the NDA exam twice a year. This exam is usually conducted in April (NDA I), and in September (NDA II). Male candidates who have qualified for 12th can only apply for this exam.

Through NDA I and NDA II, UPSC seeks to fill up officer-level vacancies in Army, Navy and Air Force. Naval Academy vacancies are also filled up through the NDA exam. The most important stage in the selection process of NDA is the 5-day rigorous test which is conducted in order to choose the best candidate. During these 5 days, candidates are tested on various grounds including their speed, intelligence, presence of mind, and psychological and physical fitness.


NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria

To apply for UPSC NDA 2024, candidates must meet the minimum eligibility criteria. These criteria are determined by the UPSC. NDA 2024 exam eligibility must be met on the grounds of the following factors:


NDA 2024 Application Form

The Commission will release the NDA 1 application form 2024 online on December 20, 2023 at upsc.gov.in. Eligible candidates will be able to fill out the NDA 1 2024 application form in two parts. In part I, they have to complete the One Time Registration (OTR) for the UPSC NDA exam 2024 by filling in the basic information. In part II, they have to log in and proceed to fill out the application form and pay the examination fees.

Candidates can edit details in the NDA application form 2024 within the prescribed date of application. The NDA 2024 registration fee for general category candidates is Rs. 100 while SC/ ST candidates, Sons of JCOs, NCOs and ORs are exempted from paying the fee for the NDA application form 2024.


NDA 2024 Syllabus

UPSC prescribes the NDA syllabus 2024 for all aspirants and mentions it in the official notification. The NDA exam syllabus 2024 contains topics and sub-topics on which the question paper will be based. The NDA 2024 syllabus consists of questions from Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT). NDA 2024 Exam Pattern

Along with knowing the syllabus, it is also advised to know about the NDA exam pattern 2024 as well. The exam pattern consists of the stages of the exam, time duration and marking scheme etc. UPSC NDA exam is conducted in pen and paper mode. The NDA exam carries two papers, Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT). The duration of each test is 2 hours and 30 minutes. The Mathematics paper carries a total of 120 questions while the GAT paper has 150 questions.

The maximum mark allotted to the written exam is 900. As per the marking scheme, candidates with correct answers in mathematics will score 2.5 marks. For the correct answer in GAT, candidates will score 4 marks. For the wrong answer, 1/3 of the marks assigned to that particular question will be deducted as a penalty. The SSB Interview will be conducted for 900 marks.
